The night before the first day of school, Mila finds her brand new backpack hiding under the bed — trembling. The night before school, something hid nearby. Mila peeked under the bed, curious. Its zipper chattered like nervous teeth.
Tomorrow was the first day, not ready. So Mila packed it with brave treasures. They practiced being brave in the mirror first.
They practiced walking together to the door. But at the door, backpack ran back inside. Then Mila whispered that she was scared too.
The little backpack held her all night. Morning tiptoed in, and found them brave together. By morning, someone brave waited at the door.
And they walked in together, carrying each other.
