Every owl loved midnight, but Sol yawned. Night school taught hunting, gliding, and staying awake. Her eyes grew heavy as the moon rose.
At dawn, while owls slept, Sol woke bright. She kept her sunrises secret, like something shameful. One night she forced her eyes open long.
Then her wings forgot the sky, everyone saw. Sleep properly, they sighed, be an owl right. But nobody guards the forest at soft dawn.
One sunrise, a shadow climbed toward the tree. Sol was always awake at dawn. Her warning call rang out, and shadow fled.
Now grandpa asks her every dusk about morning.
