Every wave rolled in to meet the shore. But little Coral held herself far back. To break upon the sand meant to end.
She watched the other waves shine bright. Big waves rose and glittered beneath the moon. Coral stayed flat and small and afraid.
Then the tide began to slip away. A little starfish lay stranded on the sand. Only a wave could carry it back.
Coral gathered herself and rose up brave. She broke soft and gentle on the shore. The starfish drifted safely back home.
Now Coral rolls in again and again.
