The Cactus Who Wanted a Hug

A gentle desert bedtime story about the night a dust storm blew a lost baby wren straight into her open arms, and what her prickles turned out to be good for all along. For every little one who has ever felt too prickly to be loved.

Nobody had ever hugged Prickle, not once. Every creature loved her, from a careful distance. She learned to wave from far away instead.

One night, a wall of dust came roaring. A tiny cactus wren was lost in it. Prickle opened her arms wider than ever before.

But spines that keep out hugs stop storms. By morning, the wren was still curled inside. The wren began building something in her arms.

A whole nest, woven right into her arms. Other creatures started stopping to listen and look. For the first time, Prickle stopped waving goodbye.

Now somebody lives inside her arms, singing.
