The garden cheered for every new leaf above. Down below, the dark was quiet and deep. July burned hot, and rain forgot the garden.
Sprout bent low as the garden fell silent. So Root dug deeper, past worms and stones. She curled around the great blocking rock.
Deeper than any root had ever gone. There in the blackness, she touched hidden water. Cool silver climbed her up to the light.
The sprout stood tall, holding an invisible hand.
