Only one sock came back from washing. Blue and his twin always matched. They warmed two feet every winter.
Now the drawer felt empty and quiet. So Blue set out into the wilderness. The dust bunnies had seen nothing.
He searched the washer, a soapy cave. Behind the radiator, he found one thread. He held the thread all night, and understood.
The lost and found box was full. A polka dot sock was crying softly. They did not match, but fit perfectly.
Small feet wore them proudly, mismatched together.
