Jig did not fit anywhere at all. Every piece found its place, clicking softly together. Jig pressed against every piece, but nothing matched.
He squeezed toward a gap in the meadow. His wrong knob made the gap reject him. He slid off the table, forgotten in dust.
Pushed aside, he was sure he belonged nowhere. Alone in the shadows, dust settled softly. Jig wiggled bravely, and small hands helped.
One last gap waited, quiet, near the center. One empty space was shaped exactly like him. He slid in with one soft, perfect click.
The last piece made the whole picture whole.
