Bibs and the Coat That Needed Him
Bibs was a small blue button who popped off a favorite coat and rolled into the dark, certain he no longer mattered. A gentle bedtime story about feeling replaceable, the cold gap he left behind, and the moment someone small held everything closed. For every little one who feels too small to matter.
Bibs the button popped off and rolled away. He tumbled fast across the wide wooden floor. Under the dresser, the light grew smaller.
He pushed and rolled, reaching for the light. His thread caught, and he slipped back down. Lost in the dark, he felt useless.
Dust settled softly, but no one came. Without him, the coat hung open. The coat gaped open, cold and lonely.
A small hand searched low, under every shadow. He rocked toward the beam and gleamed. He turned his loop, guiding the needle home.
Sewn back on, he held the coat closed.
