One night, the moon landed in a puddle. The boot missed, and she held the moon. With the streetlamp broken, she was the light.
Small night things came to warm their wings. A thirsty cat drank a corner of moonlight. She squeezed her water flat against the wind.
One gust broke the moon into pieces. She held tightest, and lost it anyway. So she stopped squeezing and let go.
The moon came back to the quiet water. All night, the street slept inside her light. At dawn, the moon went home again.
She opened wide, and the sun landed too.
